Just finished reading a 700 page book (“The Book of Basketball”) so naturally I wanted to share a few insights. I respect your time and the video is a bit long so I’ll refrain from additional context. Enjoy!

Bill Simmons is my idol.
I love him very very much.

Second that, Stuart. As a lifelong Boston sports fan and media junkie, there’s nobody more powerful than Simmons. Just the path he took to developing his personal brand is entrepreneurial itself. (Wasn’t even a journalism major; he just liked to blog and was GOOD at it.)
Wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t renew his contact with ESPN and started his own thing soon…

@Bryan – He did receive his master’s degree in Print Journalism, and wrote briefly for the Boston Herald, but you’re right in that a large part of his success stems from cultivation of his brand. So much so that he basically gave the most powerful sports network in the world (that’d be ESPN) the bird if they didn’t let him write what he wanted, how he wanted.
I have to admire someone that always did things on his terms, even when they may have seemed detrimental to his career. Like you, I could see him neglecting to re-sign with ESPN after 2010 and forging out on his own similar to the way Howard Stern has.
Thanks for commenting!

My mistake! I thought I read somewhere he was an English major at Holy Cross and began growing in popularity while he was just a bartender.
Either way, still an incredible success story that any business can take away from: Put out a unique, compelling and reliable product, and there will be a demand.

I can’t watch the video yet, but I’m loading it up now because I have very shoddy internet access where I am.
This comment is pretty much only here to say that your “What’s going on, guys” that starts the video off made me laugh out loud, and reminded me why I’m so glad we e-met. Dude, keep rocking this web game!
