Happy New Year!
I hope that you had a wonderful and restorative holiday season surrounded by family and friends. And perhaps a few people you admire and/or learn something from.
After all, you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with. In fact, one of the easiest ways to level up your life is to proactively choose who you spend your time with: your spouse/significant other, your boss, your close friends.
I encourage you to make 2018 the year you say “no” to toxic relationships.

Quick Thoughts on Saying “No”
If you’ll indulge me, some quick thoughts on saying “no” to more than just toxic relationships…
Life is short, really short. We’re each entrusted with a certain irreplaceable fund of hours. Most of us waste far too many of them.
It’s bad enough that we waste time mindlessly scrolling social media , or worse — admiring others’ lives. But what about the people that steal your hours from you? A favor here, an e-mail there, a question they could’ve Googled.
Look, I get it. There’s nothing wrong with helping people. We all want to be considered “good” people, but know that a person cannot serve two masters. If you’re trying to accommodate everyone else, you can’t take care of yourself and the things that matter the most: your spouse, your kids, your career, etc.
Help those close to you.
Those that need help.
Those that don’t ask for it very often.
Beyond that, learn to become a master of your time. Learn to say “no” much, much more often. Do not allow yourself to be sacrificed by the selfish demands of others who are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves.
Saying “no” allows you to say “yes” to the things that really matter. And nobody achieves anything worthwhile in this world without the focus and respect for their work (and life) that compels others to respect them.
Think about all the people you admire the most.
How many are posting frivolous updates on social media? Do they passively consume the news & social media? Or, are they too busy creating to be bothered?
You have great work inside you & little time with which to do it.
Start saying “no!”
