In November of 2012 I decided to join professional network/entrepreneurial brain trust.
The rationale was simple, successful people don’t succeed on their own.
There were two parts to the program:
- Monthly interviews with a wide array of brilliant people, masters and advisors that have helped countless people with productivity, health, psychology, and more
- Membership to an exclusive community of ambitious professionals to hold you accountable, encourage you, and help you live a Rich Life
I read as much (or more) than anyone I know, but reading is a time consuming endeavor.
This brain trust provides access to knowledge, wisdom and proven strategies that top performers use to…
- Get more done
- Stay focused
- Earn more money
Below is a video preview and my notes from Chase Jarvis discussing, among other things, how to build business mastery and avoid being a commodity trap.
On Your Prices:
- You *want* people to flinch.
- If it happens too easy, you didn’t ask for a enough money.
- Price yourself in a way that makes it clear you don’t need them.
The right clients buy your unique vision.
- Deliver. No excuses. Your client’s reputation is on the line.
- Show that you’ve done it before.
- Demonstrate that you know what you’re talking about.
- Leverage your industry experience. It’s important to know the game.
- Your positioning matters.
- Have a point of view and the ability to talk about that POV in a bulletproof way.
- Be uncompromising. Teach them to revere your work.
- Teach them/have a narrative of WHY your work is the best.
On Client Requests (that don’t make sense):
“I don’t do that, but this is how I would do it….”
On Honesty and Self Awareness:
Masters know what they know and what they don’t know. And they’re willing to admit both.
Other Awesome Chase quotes/advice:
- “Don’t just be better; be different.”
- “I’m going to do X, but this is how I’m going to elevate it.”
- “Every obstacle is a another way to leave more people behind.”
- “E-mail is a petition for your time. It’s always waiting around for you, not the other way around.”
- “Being the best is not an accident. It’s an active decision.”
- “You must learn both the verticals (core skills of your trade) and the horizontals (ancillary skills) to separate yourself.
- You want to build industry agnostic, cultural capital that you can travel across networks with.
- Read biographies of people you admire to understand their life choices and takeaways.
- Any tme you can take a long-term view, it often comes back bigger and/or better
