In November of 2012 I decided to join professional network/entrepreneurial brain trust.
The rationale was simple, successful people don’t succeed on their own.
There are two parts to the program:
- Monthly interviews with a wide array of brilliant people, masters and advisors that have helped countless people with productivity, health, psychology, and more
- Membership to an exclusive community of ambitious professionals to hold you accountable, encourage you, and help you live a Rich Life
I read as much (or more) than anyone I know, but reading is a time consuming endeavor.
This brain trust provides access to knowledge, wisdom and proven strategies that top performers use to…
- Get more done
- Stay focused
- Earn more money
Below is a video preview and my notes from Charles Duhigg discussing, among other things, how to create habits:
- Human willpower is limited; it gets depleted over time
- Like a muscle, strengthen it by using it more
- Change behaviors into habits (Ex: brushing your teeth is easy because it’s a habit)
- Keystone habits = exercise, financial discipline
- Five types of cues
- Time of day
- Certain place
- Particular emotion
- Presence of certain people
- Proceeding behavior that you’ve made ritualized
- You can’t make decisions about everything or weight everything equally
- You can’t stifle urges; you have to accommodate them and do so with a habit that you moves you to the next task
- The number of distractions in your field of vision exponentially increases the odds your focus will break
- You want to inculcate craving. Rather than feel pushed you want to reach a point where you are pulled to the behavior
- Example: Re-frame working out
- Practice isn’t always fun; it’s usually hard. Do it in small repetitive chunks with immediate feedback
- Find something honest you can say and commit to it. Saying something true about yourself is a redemptive feeling
If you’re tired of waiting for “some day” to take your life to the next level you can check out the Brain Trust here.
