I don’t know if we can make a difference, but I do know how smart my readers are so as I write this I’m brainstorming a collaborative project featuring posts/videos from you all sharing what you wish you would’ve learned in school.
I haven’t hashed out any details, but please ping me if this piques your interest and/or if it sounds like something you might like to participate in.
I watched this yesterday. It’s utterly fascinating, invigorating, and thought-provoking. I’m on board.
I’m totally on board with your video series, by the way, especially as a new dad who wonders what school will look like for my daughter in 5, 10, and 15 years.
@Sam – Glad we’re on the same page. I’ll reach out after the holidays and kick some ideas off you. I’d love to gain some traction and get some ideas in front of some people capable of making a difference. I think we owe it to the youth.
This video is awesome. I’m with you. This is one of the main reasons I would actually like to get my PhD in Business (Org Behavior) – so I can change the way students are taught. I figure if I can get into the system – maybe I can make it better.
I’ve been fortunate to have some amazing professors who are really paving the way…and I think that if we can get more innovative people into academia – there will be a greater chance for change.
Those are my thoughts on higher education.
BUT I definitely believe we have to start with the young children…
@Diana – That’s awesome. It’s easy to criticize the system, but it’s not so easy to get the gears turning, get in the trenches and affect positive change for others.
To your point of getting more innovative people into Academia, I think it could start with highlighting what some innovative teachers/professors are already doing. If we recognize those teaching in creative ways maybe others will be prone to stepping outside the box.
