As regular readers know, I try every couple of months to put together a list of my favorite top 10 Gen Y Blogs. Well on the last day of November I started trying to piece together a final 2008 edition with a bit of input from some of fellow Gen-Y Peers. [Thanks Ben, Meg, Ryan P, and Ryan H.]
The result was that I narrowed my list down to about 35 blogs, and then tried to read 4-5 posts from each of those that I didn’t already follow. After a few days I had the list down to 24 blogs, but each time I tried to narrow it further I struggled. [Remember that I could easily pick my 10 favorite, but this is about the 10 that would add the most value to the community.]
I eventually got it down to 11 and was going to publish it, but then I decided some blogs on the bubble were better than some in the top group; not to mention that I couldn’t for the life of me lock in an order for the top 11 I had finally chosen. The bottom line is that with so many great blogs out there it has really become an agonizing process too tough (and time consuming) for one man to decide upon.
So what’s the solution?
I am going to give my readers a list of the 35 blogs I was navigating (and you’re more than welcome to add others you feel are deserving), and you guys are going to vote on your favorite top 10 Gen Y blogs to be published on this blog (and the Squidoo lens) at the end of every month.
You can rank the blogs you submit anyway you’d like though I would encourage you to consider some of the following criteria:
- CONTENT
- Frequency of updates
- Valuable and interesting links (embedded or in the blogroll)
- Aesthetic (i.e navigation, functionality, and to some extent looks)
- Ability to incite conversation, thought-provoking comments/discussion
The Rules:
- The blogs must directly relate to Gen Y/Millennials
- One ballot per person
- Your ballot must have at least 5 blogs to be included
- You -can- vote for your own blog
- If you feel compelled to include a great post that showcases why you chose a particular blog I won’t hate you
Please submit your list of top Gen Y Blogs to ryanstephensmarketing(at)gmail.com no later than Janurary 20th, 2009. If feedback from all of you indicates that a submission form would be a lot easier, I might create one, but in the meantime shoot me your lists.

Ryan,
Thanks for including me again on the list! Interested to see how things end up ranking out! Hope all is going well for you this year 🙂
@Tiffany – You know I love the work you consistently do, and you should be recognized for it.
Thanks for the nomination. This is a great list!
Thanks for including me, Ryan!
Expect a ballot from me in the near future… there’s a lot on this list that I haven’t read yet, so I want to take a bit of time to check them out!
@Aidan – Looking forward to your ballot, and something feels wrong about me including my own blog, but other people are certainly welcome to.
(Oh, by the way, you forgot “Ryan Stephens Marketing”. I hear that that blog’s pretty decent… It definitely deserves at least an honourable mention!)
Bummer to not be included! 🙁
But thanks for compiling a list of the best blogs! I definitely will read up on these.
-Nick
PsychoticResumes.com
@Nick – To be completely honest, I was unfamiliar with your blog. I will take a look and if it is targeted at Millennials I will be happy to include it in the mix. I saw that the most recent posts were Millenial-targeted so you are probably in good shape.
Crikey. I’ve really plummeted off the lists. What would you recommend I do to make my blog better?
@Rich – Nothing. I think your blog is phenomenal, and just suggested it to Mitch Joel as a blog to watch in 2009.
The reason I didn’t include it was because I compiled blogs that were focused on the Millenial audience, not necessarily just Millenial authors. I felt like your blog had a lot larger reach including anyone looking to build a community. In any event, I’d be happy to discuss it with you (and work out a compromise), and just catch up in general!
Thanks for the nod, Ryan! Both WorkLoveLife & myself appreciate it. 😉
@Holly – What would a Gen Y list be without your blog?
I’m very honored to be included in such a list. Thank you! 🙂
@Zandria – I enjoyed getting acquainted with your blog, and you definitely deserve recognition for your efforts.
Great List!
This is what I’ve been looking for. I’ve found it difficult to find other blogs directed towards Gen Y to network with.
cheers,
Brian
@Brian – I already answered your e-mail, but I wanted to thank you again for your kind words. I look forward to getting acquainted with your blog. Have you considered checking out Brazen Careerist? It’s a great resource of countless Gen Y blogs!
Just so you know, your list inspired my Nine Gen Y blogs to watch in 09. You can consider my 10 blogs on the list as the ones I consider the Top Gen Y blogs. Fun!
@Rebecca – I enjoyed your Gen Y blogs to watch, and will definitely consider it your submission for this month’s top Gen Y Blogs!
The ballots are starting to roll in, but if you haven’t submitted on yet, by all means, send them in!
Aah – thank you! I’m last on the ballot, but hopefully by no means the least! 😀 Thank you for including me!
This is exciting – I can’t wait to see who makes the list!
Sorry to not catch this post until now, I’ve been on vacation. But wow – thanks for including me in the list! Can’t wait to see how it turns out and find lots of cool new blogs to read. 🙂
Nisha
Oh and by the way, I noticed you linked to me as nisha.nomadlife.org , which is where I used to host my blog — the new link is actually nishachittal.wordpress.com.
thanks!
Nisha
@Nisha – Thanks for the heads up, I will fix the link right away.
Hey Ryan, thanks for the nomination! Wish I would have seen this earlier because I had no idea I was up for this, until someone just e-mailed me today telling me so.
I’ll have to throw a post up on my blog to let everyone know the “Top 10 Gen Y Blog” poll ends in just a couple days!

The Rest Is Still Unwritten
http://www.diamondkt.blogspot.com
@David – Sorry you didn’t see it earlier, but even if you don’t have a big impact this month, it will be a bi-monthly (possibly monthly) list so you’ll have plenty of time to persuade your readers to give you a big push in April (or March).
Dude, thanks so much for including us on this list. You’re the bomb-diggity!
heyo,
Thanks for the nomination!
As I sit here nursing the worse cold known to man (totally hurting me in the ‘frequency of updates department, this has made my day.
Like others who have commented, I’m sorry I didn’t see this earlier.
Win or not, it’s an honour just to be nominated (I always wanted to say this..and shockingly, I mean it!)
Cheers,
Jaclyn, writer/creator of Watercooler
I have to include Social Butterfly’s blog focused on non-profit management and social media called: http://fly4change.wordpress.com She has had the perseverance to maintain a weekly series called “Your Blog Neighbor” which is worth reading and be inspired by the amazing things others have done!
Excellent and very thoughtful post! I really appreciate the time and effort you put in every single one of your posts, and finally decided to drop a comment on one of them! I’ve shared your site with my other blogger friends, and subscribed so hopefully you do the same for me.
Good luck on your blog, and feel free to comment and subscribe to my blog as well when you get a chance: Make Money Online with Dino Vedo.
Thanks so much, and lets stay connected and maybe share some ideas, do some guest posts, and get us both some more traffic and backlinks!
All the best,
